Hi, I'm Karen!
I'm an eclectic go-getter who will tackle just about anything. I thrive on bringing order out of disorder, whether it be in creating a beautiful web app, academic writing, streamlining organizational procedures, or building physical objects out of parts and pieces.
I'm transitioning into web and software development. My technical skills include Java SQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Git. And because of my former career as an educator, I'm particularly interested in educational technology.
| I'm transitioning out of a 15-year career in higher education. I hold a Ph.D. (and a few other degrees I've collected here and there). I've taught at a few universities and lectured on a wide range of topics that fall at the intersection of science, philosophy, technology, ethics, and religion. I love building and fixing things. I’m an avid DIY’er who fixes garbage disposals, builds bunk beds, repairs patio doors, and hangs ceiling fans. (Ok, ok … it's not all success stories. My old gas dryer and my aging water heater both ended up in a junkyard somewhere, but not until I stripped them down and tried every last thing!)
I'm the mother of 4 awesome kids.
I keep chickens in my backyard. Yes, I built the coop myself, and I ended up designing a custom watering device that has withstood the occasional -20°F temperatures of Iowa winters.
